Wedding CeremonyReviewed on November 13, 2010From Sevierville, TN

The only comment we have is that he was not able to arrive early enough for us to discuss special requests before the wedding. We had hoped to have him play outside the chapel during the ceremony (it was only 10 minutes. But we did not get a change to discuss it with him. I am certain he would have been amenable. He was very professional; we enjoyed his playing tremendously. He even posed for portraits with the bride and groom! We would definitely use his services again.

:

I arrived at least 20 minutes before the ceremony and was not asked to play anything until the bride's march. No one asked me to play outside during the ceremony, and it would have been strange to do so, as I have never played during the middle of a ceremony while vows and rings were being exchanged. Also, Vicki Hall paid me one half of my fee by check, and that check has bounced. So I may have to file suit in small claims court and pay $125 filing fee to recover $180.

Steve played two songs at my Mothers memorial service. He exceeded all of our expectations in all areas.

Steve was a nice enough guy, he seemed put off when asked to stay after the service and play a few more songs. He really struggled with Amazing Grace which was the most important piece we wanted. Also we requested him to play it again as he left and he chose to play something else. I don't think we would use him again, pretty expensive for 5 songs and about an hour of his time. Didn't find him very professional, he really wanted to be fishing not playing at my father's service.

Well, I'm very sorry you felt that way. I normally play two verses of a hymn at the beginning of a funeral service and then two verses at the end. I played Amazing Grace as I always do and don't understand why you think I "struggled" with that tune. I am sorry that your expectations were different. I am refunding $100 of my $250 fee, since you don't feel that you got your money's worth. I thought the service went very well and that everyone was pleased with it, and I really wasn't in a hurry to be anywhere else. Your asking me to stay and play after the service wasn't off-putting, it just seemed unusual, especially considering that emotions were running high.

Memorial ServiceReviewed on October 22, 2017From Lake Junaluska, NC

He showed up early dressed in traditional attire. Steve’s rendition of Come Thou Fount and Amazing Grace was flawless and brought everyone to tears. I cannot thank Steve enough for helping make my father’s memorial service exactly how he wanted it to be.

Steve was awesome! Did a great job, and I would highly recommend him. My wife starting walking down the isle a little to soon. Steve quickly caught that and was able to switch over to the song I had requested she walk down to. Thanks again Steve.

Wedding CeremonyReviewed on April 7, 2019From Asheville, NC

I hired Steve with understanding that the rate I’m paying for was for all day.prior to event I kindly said to him that I only needed an opening song then he would be free. The ceremony was supposed to start at 3 I was late it started at 4. The whole time he kept asking my fiancé when will I be ready because he had another venue to go to. That was very annoying. I really had a lot on my plate. The last thing I needed was that added pressure. During photos he stood there asking for the rest of his money. I don’t understand why he would book another event when I paid for his service for the day. Anyway my mother in law loved it. That’s who I hired him for.

:

I was asked to arrive an hour early for a 3pm ceremony. I arrived on time, at 2pm. I did ask a few times, after 3pm, about when the ceremony was expected to begin, just wanting to know what was happening. I told one person that I was there as long as they needed me, which was true. I did not have another event that I needed to get to. I also spent many hours preparing for this wedding by memorizing a contemporary tune on the pipes -- a song by Ed Sheeren. Being paid the balance of my fee at the end of a wedding is not unusual. What was unusual is that no one offered to do so. I really thought everything went quite well, so this feedback is rather unexpected.

I've heard many pipers in the US and in Scotland and Steve is one of the best you'll hear. He plays with skill AND feeling. He put the icing on the cake at our Highland Themed wedding. If his name comes up as a prospect for your gig...BOOK HIM.

Thank you, George, for your very kind words.
