Johnny Campbell Band is a traditional 5-piece bluegrass band featuring a collection of Nashville’s top pickers including Johnny Campbell on fiddle, Terry Eldredge on bass, Phyllis Erck on banjo, Jeff Burke on mandolin, and Charlie Pate on guitar. The band has performed across the country for over 12 years playing everywhere from dive bars to major bluegrass festivals and everything in between. While many contemporary bands have taken a modern approach to the music, Johnny and his band stay true to traditional bluegrass melodies, note for note. The band’s diverse approach to a bluegrass setlist appeals to everyone from Baby Boomers to Millennials, surprising each end of the spectrum with a love for the unfamiliar and impressing new fans with their deep-rooted knowledge of this time-honored style. Good vibes, high energy, great tunes, a flair for drama and a memorable performance make Johnny Campbell Band a must-catch act out of the booming Nashville music scene. Charismatic bandleader, Johnny Campbell, is a 3rd generation fiddler. His older brother, Jimmy Campbell, performed with the infamous Father of Bluegrass, Bill Monroe. Johnny has followed in his brother's footsteps, being heavily influenced by his much admired fiddling style and that of fiddling great, Kenny Baker. Johnny has been performing in Nashville since 1997, with residencies at clubs on Broadway as well as touring with top name bluegrass bands and his own band Johnny Campbell and the Bluegrass Drifters and more recently Johnny Campbell Band. Johnny's performance demeanor, honed from a lifetime of entertaining, takes the audience on a musical journey which interweaves jovial stories from the road and tales of his experiences with his brother and the 1st generation bluegrass legends. Longtime bandmate, Jeff Burke, on mandolin and vocals, has been performing with Johnny since 2013. His virtuosic performance on the mandolin match his charming and fun loving interaction with the rest of his bandmates and the audience. Jeff is an integral part of the bluegrass music scene in Nashville, formerly the manager and Talent Buyer at The World Famous Station Inn for several years and currently managing the booking at the newest and hottest bluegrass venue in Nashville, Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge. Holding down the bass and singing lead and harmony vocals, Terry Eldredge, brings epic bluegrass history to the band. His debut appearance on the Opry in 1979 kicked off his 13 year career with the 1st generation bluegrass band Osborne Brothers, of Rocky Top fame, touring the country and the world. When Terry steps up to the mic the audience steps back in time to an early era of the bluegrass music nearly lost to this generation. Terry is a founding member of the Sidemen who had the longest (15 year) residency at the World Famous Station Inn in Nashville, TN, and was also a founding member of the Grascals, Dolly Parton's bluegrass band. Banjo and tenor vocal, Phyllis Erck, a Texas native, grew up listening to live music every Saturday night at the Riley Springs Jamboree. This show, produced by her father, featured local and nationally touring country acts such as Johnny Cash and George Jones. Phyllis has been singing and harmonizing for as long as she can remember, honing her skill in the pews of the church singing gospel music. Growing up around music inspired her love for music and she fell in love with bluegrass when she first heard The Whites with Jerry Douglas on dobro. She cofounded and toured with the band Blue Angel Bluegrass for many years playing dobro. She recently relocated to Nashville to join Johnny Campbell Band on banjo. On guitar, native son of Nashville Charlie Pate was signed to publishing and record deals upon completion of high school. He expanded his bluegrass foundation by playing guitar, mandolin, and bass with groups of various styles and textures. Currently, his performance schedule is packed with regular appearances on Broadway and session work, making him a true “Nashville Cat”. The band showcases his original tunes and uniquely curated songs from the ancient bluegrass songbook.
