Anniversary PartyReviewed on July 12, 2010From Stamford, CT

Randy was great! Unfortunately his bass player was involved in a motor vehicle accident, so we were short one band member, but Randy reduced his quoted price to us. He is very talented and i would hire him again for any future events.

Wedding ReceptionReviewed on May 31, 2010From Middletown, CT

Randy and his jazz trio recently played for our wedding reception, and we received many compliments from guests on their talent and poise. They performed like pros and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to lend their event a classic feel. Thanks, Randy!

Randy Kemp provided a wonderful background for a 50th wedding anniversary. Their musical talents were exceptional, providing a truly delightful musical setting for cocktails and dinner. We would book them again in an instant, and will be recommending them to friends and family in the future.

Wedding ReceptionReviewed on August 9, 2012From Bedford, NY

Randy Kemp was wonderful! The band we were going to have play dropped out within a month of our wedding and Randy was able to help us out so much...our hall didn't have a PA and he was able to get us a great deal on one and played for our whole reception. They were accommodating and pleasant to work with and I would recommend them to anyone! Great, great memories made at our wedding :) Thank you so much, Randy!!!

Anniversary PartyReviewed on June 18, 2011From Westbrook, CT

RANDY is a talented performer and had he brought the 4 pieces I asked for and on time, I would have been very satisfyed. The trio that came was very smooth. I would suggest that ANY changes made after the initial booking be made with a NEW Contract in writing in hand to avoid disappointment. We mutually agreed on changes after with confirmed emails but it didnt work out. With that you will have a terriffic evening of music with Randy.

Wedding ReceptionReviewed on September 6, 2013From Shelton, CT

I found the Randy Kemp Trio to be exactly what I expected, a talented group that played the type of music, relaxing jazz, that Randy had said was his primary entertainment. Randy himself was very accommodating and pleasant, and went so far as to learn and play a piece that was special to us for the occasion. I would not hesitate to have the Randy Kemp Trio perform for us in the future.

Birthday Party (Adult)Reviewed on October 7, 2014From Newtown, CT

Randy Kemp Trio had a very impressive performance at my husband’s birthday party. Because it was a small and intimate Birthday Celebration, they were hired as Piano/Bass duet (Randy Piano and Bryan Bass) They were very punctual, professional, courteous, friendly and easy to work with. Randy and Bryan shared their musical talents with us during cocktails hours adding a perfect ambiance to our party. They made unforgettable and very special Hubby’s Birthday Celebration! We were very pleased and will keep them in mind for our future parties! I would definitely recommend Randy Kemp Trio to family and friends!! Patty Bolle

Anniversary PartyReviewed on September 1, 2012From Haledon, NJ

Randy is a talented arist and if you want a solo gig I'm sure he would do a good job. It appears, however, that he doesn't have a steady (i.e., reliable and experienced) group of other artist for any band/group gig (e.g. Drummer or bass player etc). Randy came all the way from connecticut to new jersey and gave real effort to keep the gig despite set backs (band members dropped out and he had limited transportation) but his microphone broke and he had no back up mic so we couldn't hear him on certain songs and that vocal ability was one of the key factors we considered when selecting him versus other trios. Randy's a nice guy just had a bad day and experience

:

I'd say all the stars were aligned to make this gig a true nightmare, but instead of giving up I did literally whatever it took to make this happen for my client. Part of the issue was finding performers to do it on the cheap since this gig 1.5hrs away. It also didn't help that my regular bass player cancelled last minute. The drummer provided, as discussed with the client, was an intern but capable (this cut down on his cost). All in all despite the client helping me out financially I personally made NOTHING on this gig. Simply a case of biting off more than I could chew, and tons going wrong. That being said I am sorry that this didn't go as planned.

New Year's Eve PartyReviewed on January 2, 2014From Plainfield, NJ

For having booked this gig in October, they should have been better prepared. They had no set sheet(s), and instead came with 3 thick music books. They would play a song, it would end abruptly, then there would be the longest wait between songs while they figured out what to play next. When I asked them to use only 1 book, and take way less time between songs, it didn't improve. They were clearly talented, just unprepared, and I was really disappointed with that.

:

For the 17 years I've been playing jazz, I've rarely used a list unless it was asked by the client to do so. This allows for the freedom to choose what song when, feeling the mood of the party. I'm sure because of having to entertain so many people it wasn't noticed that we were actually rocketing through tunes as fast as we could. There always has to be some time allowed for finding the music. I highly appreciated being sat down and talked to to be on the same page, but since nothing (much, ie set-list, etc) was communicated prior to the gig, I thought we were on the same page. Frankly I'm not sure why that would rate us this low though, since every guest loved us.

Studio SessionReviewed on October 29, 2015From Fairfield, CT

My guests and I had to pinch ourselves several times. We couldn't believe we were hearing such talented musicians at our party. We wanted real jazz, not some pickup group playing tired old standards, and we got it!! Randy and his band are true pros. We left everything in their hands. Randy is a fine sax player with a nice tone. The guitar player was amazing,. The bass player was solid, and the drummer was swinging. Several of our guests want to hire them for their parties as well. I hope they will be able to play at my son's wedding next year...

FundraiserReviewed on October 25, 2009From New Haven, CT

:

I appreciate that no gig happened but we to no end tried to make it work. After coming from a luncheon from New York city that afternoon, we left around 2:30 during bad rain. There were accidents both on the hudson and merrit parkways. When we arrived in New Haven we had trouble finding the location--it was located in the middle of a court yard. Then, due to a piece of missing equipment, the gig could not proceed. I did not ask for any compensation, nor did I ask the client for the money I paid on their behalf for the booking fee. This client has lost nothing but a performance.

Wine Tasting PartyReviewed on November 3, 2015From Stonington, CT

I really regret giving a poor review but Randy was very unprofessional and played for only a short amount of time. He continued to go on brakes and also use his hands to grab food off of the kids table that he was position near. When he played the music was great, but there was very little music.

:

I'm not sure why this is such a low scale review. My bassist got into an accident prior, so for at least the first 1.5 hours I played solo. Later I came back after helping him find the place and we took one other break for food. Two brakes, that's it. The caterer told us to continue before we got fed(not the client). We did so.I would have thought if the event planner had these issues with us we would have been told something about it. I was never directly told anything. The food was finger food, left at the station after the kids left. We weren't taking food away from them, as is implied. There was ZERO communication, I think this is what led to dissatisfaction.

Randy Kemp Trio played the cocktail hour at our wedding a month ago, and guests are still talking about the great vibe they helped to create. The music was perfect and our evening got off to the best possible start: fun, relaxing and energizing all at the same time. Thank you, Randy Kemp Trio!

Awards Night PartyReviewed on July 9, 2018From Southbury, CT

The performance was great. Our residents loved them & the jazz music they played! Some members of the band arrived late, but they were able to perform a little longer to make up for the late start time. I would recommend them to other co-workers and to perform in other senior facilities.
