Richmond

Virginia

I am a professionally-trained saxophonist in the Richmond, Virginia area. I have performed Smooth Jazz, Traditional Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Contemporary Worship, and Pop idioms in RVA and all around the the Washington DC-Baltimore metro corridor for almost two decades, since relocating to the Mid-Atlantic in 2000. In addition to performing in countless private events, I have also performed at the East Coast Jazz Festival and at the Kennedy Center. I have also performed at the "Jazz Nativity" production in RVA and in several churches in the DC metro area that feature world-class music production. My sound clip of "Takin' it to the Streets" on this promo page is an example of what I add to a worship performance.

If you're working with a modest budget, I can provide classy ambiance for your event by performing by myself along with backing rhythm tracks. The "Solo sax with backing tracks- Jazz and Holiday Standards" and "Feels so Good" audio tracks available above are examples of how this mix sounds. Imagine how this could spice up your reception!

In addition, I am well-connected with numerous other fantastic instrumentalists and vocalists, and can line up one of my many skilled pianist associates to form a duet. I strongly recommend this for weddings. For an even fuller live sound, I can configure a trio with piano and upright string bass. If you like the kick of jazz drums, I can also assemble and lead a jazz quartet as well as an entire 19-piece jazz orchestra (big band) with vocalists.

My high-quality QSC PA system can expand as needed with multiple, linked 1000-watt powered loudspeakers. This setup will enable my sound (whether with tracks or a jazz combo) to fill all but very large ballrooms.

Please take a moment to check out my sound clips using the icon above. Also, I frequently perform in restaurants and clubs in the Richmond area, and would be happy to let you know when and where I am performing so you can come check me out in person! I am always aware that most events for which I play are once-in-a-lifetime for the client, and are not "just another gig," and this attention to detail is reflected in my feedback. Please give me an opportunity to perform for your special event!

Amazing performance! We loved the saxophone vibe during cocktail hour! It was everything we wanted! Thanks James!!

Excellent talent. We throughly enjoyed his playlist, he came through on every request we asked for. We even requested for him to stay an extra hour over his departure time. Would highly recommend James. We will be using him again for our family events.
Thank you so much James!
