Community EventReviewed on October 6, 2019From Flint, MI

They had the first slot at our outdoor event and even though it was a slow start, Steve Wood and his trio kept the tunes coming. Very professional. Also, the quality of the music was simply amazing and enjoyed by all who were there. They even played some period-appropriate tunes! Would absolutely hire them again.

Birthday Party (Adult)Reviewed on September 16, 2019From Commerce Township, MI

They were a great addition to our small 90th birthday party. Punctual, professional, perfect for our occasion. They agreed to play on an outside deck as long as it was in the shade. They played nice background jazz. The only thing they could have done to engage the birthday boy a bit more would have been to ask him for song suggestions. They did play Happy Birthday when requested, however. We all felt they were well worth it.

Private PartyReviewed on May 13, 2019From Southfield, MI

Steve Wood Trio was outstanding at our son's college graduation celebration. They played jazz standards which set the tone for a fun and relaxing evening with our family and friends. Everyone commented how great the music was. It was a real treat and we will hire Steve Wood again for our next event. (Keeping our fingers crossed it will be an engagement party!)

WeddingReviewed on February 13, 2017From Detroit, MI

We booked the Steve Wood quintet 8 months in advance of our wedding. I didn't hear from Steve about any special requests or first dance type of songs until I wrote to him a month before the wedding. We booked the band for 5 hours of playing, and were coordinating times with our venue. The band showed up an hour late, when guests were arriving, and played for 3 our of the 5 hours we booked them for. When they did play, they were amazing, but they left our guests hanging without music for the last hour of our wedding. Not happy and would not recommend them.

Steve Wood Duo, Trio, And Quartet:

We were booked to play from 6pm - 11pm with 4 20 minute breaks. Because the venue provides piano, drums and pa, we arrived at 530 to accommodate the 6pm start, very little set up being required. We were told by the venue event planner to stay off the stage because the ceremony would take place there. It was close to 7pm before we could get back on the stage to begin playing. We played for well over an hour during dinner, took a break, then were told to stay off the stage because the cake cutting was being held there. It was close to 9pm before we finally had to ask some of the guests to move so we could start playing again. We played a long dance set(over an hou

Birthday Party (Adult)Reviewed on October 14, 2013From Ann Arbor, MI

While Steve and his trio were excellent musicians, we definitely had a miscommunication about the performers and the type of music we were expecting. Steve told us that we needed to hire a trio if we wanted a vocalist, so we hired a trio, but no vocalist! We asked that my mother's favorite song be learned for her 90th birthday party, but there was no one to sing it. If you are looking for a jazz trio, I recommend Steve Wood very highly. Unfortunately, we wanted dance music and swing with vocals from the thirties and forties. We were disappointed.

Steve Wood Duo, Trio, And Quartet:

Unfortunately there was several weeks delay between the conversation about the vocalist with Jessica and the booking with Judy and I didn't remember they wanted vocals, which we often feature with our trio and quartet. I'm very sorry about this mistake. We did play an instrumental arrangement of the requested Stephen Sondheim song, and played dance music and swing from the 30's and 40's, but without vocals.
