Birthday Party (Adult)Reviewed on August 30, 2010From Marietta, GA

I cannot say enough good things about David...he was awesome! Not only is he extremely talented, but he interacts with the crowd very well. Everyone was thrilled when they found out that he took requests. I believe the man could sing anything! I could have sat and listened to him all night. We cannot wait to use him again for our next event. You would be foolish to hire anyone else!

Family ReunionReviewed on August 8, 2010From Atlanta, GA

David was perfect! He performed at our family reunion last night and was a big hit! When we ate dinner, he set the perfect mellow tone and later when it became appropriate, he sang and we danced to his music. Then, when we wanted my cousin to get up and sing, he was there with a hugh book of song ideas for her and backed her up beautifully. He is a true professional. We were thrilled and will hire him again!

Wedding ReceptionReviewed on August 8, 2010From Dahlonega, GA

David Payton is amazing! Our guests loved his music and his voice is also wonderful! He's an engaging entertainer, fun to listen to, and is able to read an audience quite well. Our reception went wonderfully and part of that was due to David Payton as our entertainment. He's professional, prompt, and above all an amazing talent, far better than any performer I've seen at a wedding reception. If you want your guests to have fun and have your guests walk away saying how much they enjoyed the evening, make sure you book David Payton!

Birthday Party (Adult)Reviewed on June 14, 2017From Senoia, GA

This was the second event we hired David to play. I was a bit disappointed this time. He was contracted to play until midnight. He stopped playing at 11 and packed up.When questioned, he said he noticed that the ladies were packing up the food. No effort to discuss his decision to quit playing earlier than contracted. He took several breaks during the evening, which was fine. However he took the liberty of helping himself to food and beverage each time, even packing up a healthy to go plate. Again, no discussion with me. I had expected better contact with David over the course of the evening. No offer to sing happy birthday was made either. I paid the full fee

:

I'm very sorry Eileen was disappointed. The party was to be outside under a nice tent. Everything went well and people responded well. It was hot and very humid, so after dinner, most of the time the party attendees were in the house in the air conditioning where the food and drinks were being served. I was out under the tent mostly alone. I did take breaks (unlike I usually do) because it was so hot, and really no one knew if I was singing and playing or if I was simply playing recorded music. Every time I went in where everyone was, the hostesses enthusiastically offered me food. I ate a little here and there as it was a LONG gig, and I am prediabetic

WeddingReviewed on October 2, 2012From Marietta, GA

David did not pay close attention to details, and was hard to schedule a face-to-face at the venue and for just communication in general. Some key responsibilities were missed. That is probably OK for a BBQ or a bar band, but when dealing with a nervious bride and groom it was below our expectations.

:

This client called, emailed, sent 'to the minute' itineraries and insisted that I meet them days ahead of time at the venue to answer questions and make them feel comfortable. I responded professionally to every request. I set up two separate PA systems. I played all requested songs. I have no idea why this client would review me so poorly. If I had performed poorly and not gone the extra mile I would just leave it alone, but that is not the case. This client's daughter (& wedding planner) said he was "anal" and "nearly impossible to please" and "don't take anything he says personally." His daughter & bride said I did a great job. Review is unreasonably poor.

Wedding ReceptionReviewed on May 8, 2014From North Augusta, SC

He came highly recommended from the caterer and was overall easy to work with however the bride and groom supplied him a list of songs they wanted played during the reception but he was taking requests from other people. We had to ask him about 3 times to announce the bride and groom then he immediately started into their first dance without announcing the remaining wedding party. They finally just gave up and came on downstairs after watching the bride/groom dance, father/bride and mother/groom dance. I just feel he was not worth the $750 we (brides parents) paid and needless to say we will not be contacting him for our daughter's wedding in November 2014.

:

Among the most demanding and difficult people I have ever worked for. They sent me a HUGE song list the night before I drove all the way to South Carolina to do BOTH their wedding & reception. I stayed up until 2am downloading and organizing their massive playlist. They never gave me any itinerary of the reception and they never once indicated I was to announce the bridal party. They gave me no names at all. The coordinator was an aunt, who said she had no clue what she was doing. I asked them repeatedly, and they assured me they were happy. This review was a total shock, and as you can tell by my other reviews, this client's credibility is questionable at best.

Private PartyReviewed on May 6, 2019From Flowery Branch, GA

You don't get paid for a private event and ask for tips. You don't cut your 3 hour set short by an hour and expect to be paid in full. While David is very talented he is very difficult to work with and I won't be using him again.

:

1. He had someone cancel. He talked me down from my asking price (+ a 3 hour round trip I didn’t charge for). He knew that. 2. He had his party outdoors (thunderstorms forecast all week). He set me up in a 10x10 tent right next to the pool where kids were splashing all over my gear. 3. Then came the thunderstorm. It had rained off & on all day, but this was hard rain running in. 4. Contract: 7-10, I stopped at 9:20. It was just too dangerous. My cables/cases are still drying in my basement. 5. He tried to stiff me 1/3 of the entire amount! I gave him $100 (20%) off & STILL gives me a ridiculously bad review? That says it all. 170+ 5-star reviews is my rebuttal.

CelebrationReviewed on September 1, 2019From Leesville, SC

Be careful he put you up on social media when done and let his friends judge your appears. Even when he sign a paper saying no photos. And also mentioned on social media that he charged more than he should and made fun of it... Terrible experience. This guy has a problem I feel sorry for him.

The contract was cancelled after I contacted David Payton to confirm. He stated he would not be able to make it. I never received a cancellation notice by The Bash.

Wedding ReceptionReviewed on September 1, 2023From Dahlonega, GA

He did a really great job doing the live music and sounded great. However, there were multiple emails that I sent that had no response. He did not look at the timeline for the reception in the email and did not know when he was supposed to announce certain things or fade the music out so the reception felt unplanned. The music was also too loud and multiple people had to tell him to turn it down several times (I was told this later).
