ABOUT THE THEME

Here’s a new twist to a decade theme: a train car dinner party. Invite friends and family to get away without booking a single ticket. Channel the golden age of rail travel for this theme, with an evening of beautiful scenery, tasty food and glamorous décor. In the early 1900s, train journeys were glamorous and very high-brow—the “it” way to get from A to B.

With a change of scenery and different backdrop, you could also give a railcar spin to any destination-specific theme, creating a train ride through the French countryside, the Rocky Mountains or Scottish Highlands.

Entertainment

JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Fill the room with jazzy tunes reminisce of decades past. Live music is one of the best ways to set the scene and create a well-rounded experience that turns into a lasting memory.

Entertainment

PHOTO BOOTH

For a fun photo op, set up scenery and props that imitate a train platform. Outfit it with old luggage pieces and accessories like beret hats and lace gloves that guests can use to dress up their photos.

Venue Settings

BALLROOM

For a large guest list, a ballroom will offer plenty of room for both dining tables, cocktail-hour mingling and, not to mention, all the decorations. Scenic backdrops, table lamps and tall acrylic candelabras will bring the setting to life.

Food

AMERICAN CUISINE

Combine the presentation of first-class eats with the casual sit-down meal experience of a dining car. Pair a place setting and individual menu cards with timeless dinner favorites like prime rib or chicken francaise, with warm dinner rolls to boot.

Beverage

CHAMPAGNE

Opt for a drink that can be served in vintage stemware, like coupes. Coupes are often associated with the extravent parties of early 1900s, radiating that air of old Hollywood glamor.

THEMED COSTUME

Some of the best costumes are really just a few well-placed accessories like a hat with a vintage watch, or a vest and suspenders.

VINTAGE DÉCOR

Adding a handful of vintage luggage pieces around the entryway can help set the scene right away, especially when paired with luxe draped linens.
