CelebrationReviewed on May 1, 2023From Center Valley, PA

Thank you to the Bash for connecting our organization to one of the best bagpipers Northwest of Edinburgh, Mr. Gus Person! Gus is the consummate professional and his rousing rendition of “Scotland the Brave” was heralded by the hundreds of folks at our celebratory event…evocative of the Highlands in the mist! Overall, I would say that Gus Person is the quintessential bagpiper to entertain your audience at weddings, parades, festival, etc. with the beautiful sounds of the pipes while dressed in authentic uniformed regalia!

:

I was hired to play at a celebratory game at DeSales University played by the Men's Lacrosse Team. It was a dour and drizzling day as I led the team onto and around the field and then played as the entire team warmed up. It was a great experience.

Was available on short notice for a firefighter funeral. Showed up early, friendly kind and talkative. Fantastic playing.

:

Jon hired me to play at the funeral of a deceased firefighter at the West Greentree Church and Cemetery. It was located in a rural area of Lancaster County. I played as the casket was being conveyed to the grave, and them played Amazing Grace following the final prayers and full-honors Fire Service ceremony.

Birthday Party (Adult)Reviewed on April 18, 2023From Bear, DE

Gus was a true joy. Very professional and with a ton of experience. He even took time to explain how bagpipes work to our small kids. It was a very memorable time that we’ll always treasure and would do again in a heartbeat!

:

Hilda hired me to pay at the birthday celebration for her Scottish-American husband at a residential home in Bear, DE. The family gathered in the backyard as I arrived, playing Scotland the Brave. I played a number of sets and took requests from the audience. I closed the performance with a rendition of Happy Birthday. Great piping weather!

Wedding CeremonyReviewed on April 5, 2023From Harrisburg, PA

Gus was a tremendous addition to our wedding! His performance was magnificent and really added a uniquely tailored meaning to our special day. From the moment he reached out to our inquiry to the end of the wedding, Gus was both professional and personal and accommodated our specific requests. He also coordinated very well with our pianist and officiant to make the whole ceremony flow flawlessly. We would highly recommend Gus as the best choice to anyone considering hiring a bagpiper for any occasion! Thanks again Gus!

:

I was hired to play at the wedding of Patrick and Beth in the Rotunda of the State Capitol in Harrisburg, PA, - certainly a magnificent venue. I played at the end of ceremony as the Bridal Couple descended the large staircase in the center of the expansive room. The couple had requested that I play The Gael for a Recessional and a number of other traditional Scottish tunes. The acoustics were certainly amazing!

FuneralReviewed on March 12, 2023From Chambersburg, PA

Gus Person is a phenomenal piper! He was able to play Irish pipe music that was authentic and traditional. He provided a repertoire of tunes and I was able to pick what I needed. He played in a stoic manner during bad weather that both honored my Irish Father and inspired all who attended. His rate was most reasonable of all pipers that I contacted. I would seek his services again! Tom Carroll LTC US Army Infantry (Retired)

During intermittent wet snow showers, I played at the funeral and interment of an Irish-American gentleman at the Parklawns Memorial Gardens Columbarium in Chambersburg, PA. I wore traditional Irish attire and was pleased to have my cloak which was worn in the fashion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. I played Irish traditional tunes which were selected by the deceased's son. He especially wanted to hear "St. Patrick's Day...in the morning."

Gus’s performance at my grandmother’s funeral was beautiful. Gus was extremely accommodating for a last minute request, and I would highly recommend him for any event.

Catie hired me, almost at the last minute, to play at her grandmother's funeral on a windswept hillside at the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Pottsville, PA. I wore traditional Irish attire for this Irish-American lady. A large crowd of family and friends gathered after the Mass at the local Catholic Church.

FuneralReviewed on March 2, 2023From York, PA

We were lucky enough to secure Gus for yet another funeral, and again he did not disappoint. As a funeral director, I have to juggle many moving parts, but knowing that Gus is onboard gives me complete peace of mind when it comes to bagpipes at the cemetery. He is punctual, has great communication skills and is professional in all he does (both behind the scenes and on the day of the service). Mr. Person's playing skills are top-notch, and dealing with him is smooth and painless. He receives my highest recommendation.

:

I played at the funeral of a US Army Korean War veteran at the Mount Rose Cemetery in York Pennsylvania. The gravesite was located on a chilly, windswept hill in a cemetery overlooking the city of York. All the family members were very appreciative of my piping.

I played at the funeral home and the full-honors military funeral at the Evergreen Cemetery for a US Army veteran in Duncannon, PA. A PA Army National Guard detail from Fort Indiantown Gap provided the flag detail. The deceased was also a former member of the Kiltie Band of York. It was cold, but clear.

I played at the Memorial Service for an Irish-American, and US Air Force veteran at the St. Basil's Parish Church in Phoenixville, PA. Two Airmen, assigned to the Dover AFB in Delaware, arrived as the flag detail. Military Honors were rendered before the Mass. At the conclusion, I played the Air Force Song, followed by a selection of Irish tunes and then The Flowers of the Forest. A very moving tribute.

As before, Gus was extremely accommodating to our needs and flexible with tight scheduling. His professionalism is second to none. I appreciate the air of dignity Gus provides for funeral services. When speaking to the family I helped, they all commented very favorably about how Gus made the funeral complete with his bagpipes. Thank you, once again, Gus. You are a valued member of our team now.

At almost the last minute, I was called to play at the funeral of a firefighter who had tragically died very young. The funeral was held at the Grandview Memorial Park. The gravesite was on a hilltop with a grand view of the surrounding valley. The funeral cortege consisted of over 60 vehicles. I played as the casket was conveyed to the gravesite through a double column of colleagues and friends.

Church ServiceReviewed on November 28, 2022From Camp Hill, PA

Gus was prepared, professional, and a joy to work with. I would not hesitate to recommend him. In 30 years of professional music ministry, he is among the best I’ve hired.

:

On Sunday, 11/27/22, I played at the Kirkin' of the Tartans service at the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church. There were amazing acoustics in this magnificent church, built in 1950. I spoke to many of the parishioners, a number of whom had Scottish ancestry. I played for the Processional and Recessional, and also Adeste Fidelis during the Offertory.

CelebrationReviewed on November 27, 2022From Hanover, PA

Gus arrived early, was pleasant and ready to walk in the Christmas parade - even at 8am and in the drizzle! And he had a bit of a drive to get here, too! He walked our parade, to help celebrate our Retired Fire Commissioner Roth! He played the entire length of parade AND a few songs at Santa's Cabin. I would HIGHLY recommend Gus for your event!

:

On that day, I played in the annual Christmas Parade in downtown Hanover, PA. I was the solo piper, and led the Grand Marshal, the retired Fire Commissioner. Fortunately, the rain held off. It was a short parade but there were hundreds of people lining the route. I played some Christmas carols as the parade was winding down, pending the arrival of Santa who would be greeting the children. This was a fun event.

FuneralReviewed on November 22, 2022From White Haven, PA

Gus Person was simply amazing! His professionalism, passion and authenticity were powerful! He played at the graveside for our Scottish Father's internment. He was in full dress with our MacKenzie family tartan. He provided an awesome performance that moved everyone there and he honored the legacy of our Father, in more ways that these words can't describe. We picked 5 songs together and his Bag Piping was spell-binding and pitch perfect! We enthusiastically recommend him for any occasion! We thank God for Gus.

:

I played at the rural Laurel Cemetery in White Haven, PA, for a Scottish gentleman. The family requested that I wear MacKenzie tartan. I played as the mourners were gathering, and then The Flowers of the Forest following the final prayers. As the family and guests were socializing, I played a number of Scottish traditional tunes.

For the second time, I played at the annual Kirkin' Service at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in York, PA. As a living historian, I wore the historic 1930s Service Dress uniform of a piper in the Scots Guards. Besides, the Processional and Recessional, I played some piobaireachd during Communion: Colin Macrae of Invereenant's Lament. To my surprise and gratitude, I was inducted as the Honorary Parish Piper, and was presented with a blue sash and plaid brooch.

Gus was the prefect way to honor my father at his funeral. Gus is extremely talented and has a wealth of song choices. He was very accommodating. So many people commented on how special it was to have Gus play at my dad's funeral. I would recommend him for any bag piper performance you need.

:

Beth hired me to play at her father's Celebration of Life at the Irvine Memorial Chapel on the campus of the Mercersburg Academy, a prestigious secondary school in south-central Pennsylvania. Her father had been a teacher and dean of students at the school. At the end of the service, I played The Flowers of the Forest and Amazing Grace in the church. I slow marched onto the plaza in front of the chapel to play Anchors Aweigh, Shenandoah and Simple Gifts plus a host of Scottish tunes. This was a magnificent setting among perfect weather.
