COVID-19 UPDATE from Captain Leslie's Science and Ladybug the Clown

As we struggle with how to handle our circumstances, one thing is clear: Wearing Masks and practicing Social Distancing SAVES LIVES.

As our understanding of transmission evolves, we have seen growing evidence that simply gathering - to celebrate our birthdays, our life achievements, our social, religious and community milestones, and just seeing and being with each other - exposes us and our loved ones to the threat of COVID-19 transmission.

As heartbreaking as it is, everyone should postpone or re-imagine any planned social gatherings.   It is especially critical to realize that it is more dangerous here in Southern California now than it was when the lockdowns began - the virus has spread more widely, and is more present in the community.  Reopening efforts may be worsening the effect and driving up cases: do not be complacent.  

How does this affect what I as an entertainer can offer you?

I feel it is my duty to do the following:
1.  Provide leadership by example, and make choices about continuing my services that prioritize health and safety over all
2. Be realistic about what can and cannot continue during a pandemic
3. Be a resource for answers about the state of kids' event planning and best practices in a COVID-19 world

This leads to the following:

1. I will not be performing/offering services at any INDOOR gathering of any kind.  This includes malls, restaurants, park recreation facilities, schools, homes, banquet halls, theaters and event spaces, workplaces, and houses of worship.  
2a.  I am no longer offering face painting as a service.
2b. I am DELIGHTED to offer virtual services!  
3.  Outdoor activities carry less risk than indoor activities, but it remains the case that GATHERING with people who are not members of your household holds the greatest potential to spread COVID-19.  It is very hard to maintain strict rules (staying 6' apart, wearing masks, not sharing food or plates) at a party where you're talking, laughing and having fun.  This is especially challenging for kids!  Distanced events are possible, but require extra planning and discipline. 
I encourage you to message me for a dialogue about thoughts and ideas to safely plan a pandemic celebration.

Captain leslie was fantastic. Her love for science is infused in each hands-on activity she ran for our group of 15 7- and 8- year-old girls. We had bubbling cauldrons and smoke vortices and all kidns of other things. She adapted her show for our audience and she was tireless and super enthusiastic.
She is a real find. I looked at the "chain" science entertainers and they had a much more canned and dumbed down approach. At the time of our event, Captain leslie was getting her masters degree in education of science, so she really approaches the subject from a place of deep understanding.
Hire her. You'll be so glad you did.

Captain Leslie Science performed for my daughter's 5th birthday at Pilgrim School. What an enormous talent she is, and such a warm-hearted professional. I was close to tears during the party because the kids were so happy. 

After deftly setting up her many "experiments," Leslie switched gears into a lively, fun science lady who kept up with the kids’ high energy level. The LA Times was there to photograph her for an article. The kids were so engaged, they barely noticed. When kids would say, "That’s magic," she'd say "That’s science!"

Leslie did everything we planned and more, and the event was just perfect. The school wants to bring her back!


Wow! Ladybug the clown was perfect! She involved the whole party in her games and silliness. The kids LOVED her! She did face painting, balloon twisting, magic show, and fun parachute games. Thank you ladybug the clown!

Leslie was outstanding.  We gave her a fairly rigid time period to entertain guests and play games with the kids.  
She was even kind enough to take some of the kids away to perform magic while some of the other activities were going on.  I was most impressed with her efforts to remember the names of the kids she was entertaining.  I thought this was just an added degree of professionalism and made her much more appealing to the kids as she made attempts to call on them by name.  My wife and I are both educators and we are well aware how difficult it is to retain the very short attention spans of young ones.

i thought she was great.the kids love her and they were all over her.she was great i would get her again and tell my friends about her. thank you .

My kids loved Batman and Snow White, they was on time and very sharp. The kids was excited when they saw batman but the girls was really excited when they say Snow White, I want to thank the Ladybug The Clown And Captain Leslie's Science for making my nephew and daughter a success.
