Great White North Party Theme
Get lost in a forest of snowy Canadian fir trees.
About the Theme
Ever wondered what it would be like to step inside one of those magical snow globe scenes? Whimsical décor combined with technical execution, like laser-cut printing and large-scale graphic installations, can bring that dream-like landscape into reality.
Recreate your own snow globe setting with Canada-in-the-wintertime inspiration. Blanket your party space in a monochromatic color palette of silver and white, and use uplighting and backlighting to create shadows for contrast. Textured linens like sequin table runners or velvet pillows will also help add depth to a whitewashed room.

MORE ABOUT THIS PARTY

The idea for this Great White North party theme was created by Angela Desveaux, Canada Creative Director for Engage! Summits, for the 2018 Gala. “Banff, Canada, is all about nature, and being in the great outdoors. I wanted to celebrate the majestic animals and amazing scale (AKA trees for days, and days!) of this part of Canada,” says Desveaux. “The two oversize shadow boxes emulate real scenes from the forest and mountains, complete with moose, elk, bears, deer, foxes and fir trees.”
A modern ballroom will set the scene for an elegant, but whimsical, fete. You’ll have plenty of square footage for tables, a lounge area and dance floor.
Live music will bring an air of grandeur to this fanciful evening. Find a band that can cover the gamut of top 40 songs and classics that always fill the dance floor. If you’re giving your event a dress code, talk to the band ahead of time to see if they can accommodate the themed attire.
Wintertime chills call for warm comfort food that makes you feel all fuzzy inside. If you want to match the cuisine to the theme, look to favorites that fall within the monochromatic color scheme, like brie crostini, cauliflower soup, white cheddar truffle mac and cheese and bite-sized cheesecake.
Turn your signature cocktail into an experience by adding something unexpected to the glass. Some mixologists specialize in adding a touch of artwork, like an instant-print graphic. (For a detail that’s a little more DIY friendly, opt for a unique flavored rim, garnish or customized swizzle sticks to make an impression.)
Add dimension to the tablescapes with detailed laser-cut centerpieces. Mix and match the designs so each table has a different story to tell.
Invite guests to take a load off with a cozy lounge area that says, “Relax and enjoy your cocktail—then get out on that dance floor and show off your moves.” Add pillows, candles and a small floral arrangement to make it feel more homey.
