Last-minute Halloween costumes inspired by pop culture

From iconic movie characters to some of the year's biggest pop culture moments, there's plenty of Halloween inspiration to go around. These recognizable looks are surprisingly easy to recreate, even if you're working with whatever's already in your closet.

Nikki from "Obsession"

For a costume inspired by one of 2026's horror hits, recreate Nikki's memorable look with a red-and-black zebra-print top and shorts. Add some deliberately messy makeup or fake blood to up the creep factor.

Kim Possible

What's the sitch? If you've got a black crop top, some baggy green cargo pants and a pair of boots, you've basically got everything you need to become everyone's favorite early-2000s crime-fighting teen. Find a utility belt and some fingerless gloves if you're feeling particularly ambitious.

Wednesday Addams

All you need is a black dress, a white collared shirt, and two braided pigtails to pull off Wednesday's iconic look. Add some dark eyeliner and practice your most unimpressed expression to tie it all together.

"KPop Demon Hunters" costume

Channel your fave member of HUNTR/X with bright clothing, bold makeup and a wacky hairstyle. Rumi's signature purple braid is an especially recognizable detail, and you can improvise with whatever accessories you have on hand.

Carmy from "The Bear"

This one's ridiculously easy as long as you have a plain white T-shirt, dark pants and an apron. A blue apron, ideally. Take it up a teeny-tiny notch and sling a dish towel over your shoulder and spend the evening looking mildly overwhelmed and calling everyone "cousin." Yes, chef!

Jessie from "Toy Story"

Got jeans, cowboy boots and a white shirt? Add a red cowboy hat and a braid to recreate Jessie's signature look. It'll work even better if you can convince a pal to dress up as Woody and turn it into a fun last-minute couple's costume.

Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada

Put on your sharpest blazer, oversized sunglasses and a fabulous handbag. Add a silver wig if you have one, and perfect your most intimidating stare. That's all.

Funny last-minute Halloween costume ideas

If you'd rather get a laugh than give someone a scare, these funny Halloween costume ideas are right up your alley. They're clever, a little ridiculous, and best of all, require very little effort to pull together — even if you haven't put any thought into planning your Halloween situation yet.

A walking red flag

Some people hide their red flags. Not you, and certainly not on Halloween. Dress entirely in red, attach a few little red flags to your outfit and spend the evening telling people you're "actually really nice once you get to know me."

Definitely Not AI

Wear your most aggressively normal outfit and pin a sign to your chest that says "NOT AI." For extra credibility, add a few cardboard fingers to your hands, blink at suspiciously regular intervals, and respond to every question with "As a human, I can confirm..." If anyone questions your costume, assure them that you are a completely real person with the appropriate number of limbs.

Identity thief

Pick up a handful of "Hello, my name is" stickers, write different names on each one, and stick them all over your shirt. Congratulations, you're officially an identity thief.

Cereal killer costume

Attach a few empty cereal boxes to an old shirt and decorate them with fake blood and cardboard knives. It's cheesy, sure, but that's half the fun of Halloween.

Raining cats and dogs

Grab an umbrella and attach paper cutouts of cats and dogs to the inside using string. Pair it with a raincoat and boots, and you've got yourself a clever costume that people will actually remember.

Formal apology

This one's for anyone who appreciates a good (or terrible) pun. Dress up in your fanciest formal attire and attach a sign that says "I'm sorry." And there you have it! A formal apology. Ba dum tss.

Classic last-minute Halloween costume ideas

There's absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to the classics, especially when you're short on time. Whether you're planning a last-minute Halloween for kids or adults, these tried-and-true Halloween costume ideas never go out of style.

Vampire

You really can't go wrong with a classic vampire. Wear an all-black outfit, put on some dramatic eye makeup and red lipstick, and finish with some fake fangs if you can find some. A little fake blood around your mouth makes things extra spooky, but it's not mandatory.

Witch costume

A black dress, boots and a pointed hat are pretty much all you need. If you're feeling creative, add dark lipstick, some witchy jewelry and a broomstick to complete your last-minute witch costume.

Mummy

Got a roll of toilet paper lying around? Congratulations, you're halfway to becoming an ancient Egyptian nightmare. Wrap yourself in strips of white fabric, old bedsheets or gauze bandages, leaving a few loose ends dangling for that just-escaped-from-the-tomb look. I'd steer clear of actual toilet paper unless you're prepared to unravel the second someone spills a drink on you.

Bedsheet ghost

Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason. Grab an old white bedsheet, drape it over yourself, and create openings so you can see and move safely. Add sunglasses for excellent photo ops.

Black cat

Dress head to toe in black, draw a little nose and whiskers with eyeliner and make some pointy ears using construction paper and a headband. It's cute, simple, and requires almost no preparation.

Zombie costume

Find some old clothes you don't mind ruining, tear a few holes, and add some dark, skin-rotty makeup. Mess up your hair, create some dark circles under your eyes, and you're ready to join the undead.

Scarecrow

Throw on a plaid shirt, jeans, boots and a floppy hat. Use eyeliner to draw stitched details around your mouth and cheeks. If you have some raffia or straw handy, tuck a little into your sleeves. Yep, it's that easy.

Easy DIY costumes using clothes you already own

The trick to a great last-minute Halloween costume is working with what you've already got. Before heading to the store, take a look through your closet, makeup bag and household supplies. You might be surprised by how many recognizable costumes you can create with just a few everyday items.

Louvre jewel thief costume

Looking to pull off the heist of the century this Halloween? Take inspiration from the infamous Louvre robbery in Paris. All you need is a high-vis vest, black clothes and a ski mask to recreate the look of the thieves who made off with millions in French crown jewels. Throw on a sparkly necklace or tiara for good measure.

Mime costume

Put on a black-and-white striped shirt, black pants and a beret if you've got one. Throw on some white face makeup and black eyeliner, and avoid chatting too much at the party. Or at all, if you really want to get into character.

Fortune teller

Layer some colorful scarves, flowing clothes and chunky jewelry for a mystical, magical vibe. Carry a deck of cards and offer your pals suspiciously vague predictions about their futures.

'80s aerobics instructor

Pull out your brightest leggings, sneakers and a funky tank top or bodysuit. A headband and leg warmers would be excellent additions if you have them, and a high ponytail, if you've got hair. You're officially ready to get physical.

Goddess costume

Drape a white sheet or scarf over a simple outfit, secure it with a belt and add gold jewelry. A leafy headband makes an easy DIY laurel crown. It's a surprisingly cute costume you can assemble in minutes. It's the perf option for anyone who absolutely adored the recent Odyssey film and wants to recreate Athena's look.
