Memorial Service•Reviewed on October 14, 2020•From Jamison, PA
:
Mary booked me to play at her father's memorial service on a pastoral farm setting in eastern Pennsylvania. I played Irish tunes to highlight the family's heritage. As a Vietnam veteran, her father was honored by an Army honor guard team which folded the flag and a bugler who played Taps. It was great to work with Mary and her family who were very appreciative. I enjoyed meeting many of the guests who were welcoming and interested in the pipes, my attire and piping experiences.Review by Casey B.
Funeral•Reviewed on September 12, 2020•From Red Lion, PA
:
Casey booked me to play at her father-in-law's funeral at a country cemetery in Red Lion, PA. I played as the casket was being conveyed to the gravesite. The minister gave a heartfelt homily about the deceased. I followed up by playing Amazing Grace as I walked into the distance. A sad day, punctuated by cloudy, dour weather. I hoped that my playing would memorialize the event for everyone.Review by Tim S.
Wedding•Reviewed on September 25, 2020•From Lancaster, PA
:
Tim and Marisa hired me to play at their wedding at the Historic St. Mary's R.C. Church in downtown Lancaster, PA. I wore historic attire of an 1870s 42nd Foot piper in Drill Order in Black Watch kilt and Royal Stewart full plaid. It was a perfect day for a wedding with an idyllic venue. This wedding had originally been scheduled for the end of March, but due to the Covid virus was re-scheduled for the end of August. The Bridal Couple were great to work with and were very appreciative. I met many of the families and guests. I also got to play many Scottish and Irish favorite tunes. I almost got locked out of the parking garage, but I suppose this is an occupatReview by Teresa P.

The Palmyra American Legion hired me to play at a flag presentation ceremony on a very warm, humid day. I played for 20 minutes before the ceremony which included patriotic readings and speeches by local and state officials. After Taps, I played The Flowers of the Forest. The American Legion staff and all the guests could not have been more welcoming and appreciative.Review by John S.
Funeral•Reviewed on June 29, 2020•From Wiconisco, PA
:
The local funeral home booked me to play at the funeral of a WW II Navy veteran. The funeral was held in a country cemetery in a valley surrounded by high mountains. I couldn't believe how many militar veterans, extending to the Civil War, wete buried there. I played as the urn was carried to the grave by two Navy enlisted men, one of whom played Taps during the military honors. A local quintet played The Navy Hymn while the two flags were being ceremonially folded. I finished the ceremony by playing Amazing Grace into the distance.Review by Susan T.
Funeral•Reviewed on March 17, 2020•From Mountville, PA
:
Susan asked me to play at the gravesite funeral of her father in a rural cemetery in Lebanon County, PA. She was happy that I was able to wear Clan Cameron tartan in kilt, hose and pipe ribbons: a family tartan. She was also knowledgeable concerning pipe music, so I played Amazing Grace as the casket was being conveyed to the grave; Highland Cathedral after the Lord's Prayer; and The Flowers of the Forest after the final prayers. Her father, a minister, must have had a sizeable following since a large number of people assembled at the gravesite service. I was happy to have provided musical support for this emotional event.Review by Kevin K.
Funeral•Reviewed on October 13, 2020•From Columbia, PA
:
Due to referrals, I was booked to play at the funeral of the former Chief of Police of Columbia. PA. At the St. Peter R.C. Church, I played as the casket was conveyed through the police honor guard to the hearse. At the cemetery, I played as the casket was carried by the pall bearers to the gravesite, and then played The Flowers of the Forest while moving off into the distance. The humid, misty weather made the pipes echo throughout the hills surrounding the cemetery.Review by Matthew K.

Matt hired me to play at the funeral of a fire department chief in Harrisburg, PA. The interment took place on a hilltlp at the Blue Ridge Memori Gardens. Despite the very cold weather, the pipes sounded fine, and I hope that I added to the solemnity of the occasion.Review by Elizabeth H.
Memorial Service•Reviewed on December 13, 2020•From Drexel Hill, PA
:
Elizabeth hired me to play at the Collenbrook United Church at the interment of a deceased member on the church grounds. On this Saturday afternoon, about fifty people gathered to remember their colleague. I played a selection of appropriate tunes before the service; and then began the memorial with Highland Cathedral. I played Amazing Grace during the actual interment, and slow marched off into the distance. A very somber experience.Review by Susan J.

This was a very enjoyable and unusual event. I loved seeing all the St. Bernard dogs at the 82nd Annual Convention in Bethlehem, PA of the St. Bernard Dog Club of America. I played before the official opening of the day's events. The spectators and participants expressed very positive feedback, and I got to meet a lot of nice people.Review by Robb B.

I played at the funeral for the father of one of our band members at the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA. This is an evocative setting. One of our band members also conducted the religious service. I played The Flowers of the Forest at the end of the service. I also wore the full-dress uniform of a pipe major in the Black Watch. I was honored to be asked to play on this occasion.Review by Hayley D.

I was hired to play at The Udder Bar, a popular ice cream shoppe in downtown Allentown, PA. This is also where the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade begins; although the parade has been cancelled for the past two seasons. I played the Great Highland Bagpipe and the Smallpipes. There was a large crowd which also enjoyed a local Irish Dance troupe. I played four 20-minute sets. The pipes sounded great, but I was about out of breath by the end of the evening, Hayley was great to work with.Review by Sandra M.
Funeral•Reviewed on March 31, 2021•From Mechanicsburg, PA
:
Sandy and Andrew hired me to play at the funeral for their brother in Mechanicsburg, PA, on a very gloomy morning. I wore Black Watch full-dress and played a number of tunes that Andrew had requested. Besides Amazing Grace, I also played the Marine Corps Hymn. Interestingly enough, a retired USMC major attended the service. The extended family had strong ties to the Marine Corps.Review by Mike J.

Mike hired me to play at the funeral service for his mother at the Mary Mother of the Church in Mount Joy, PA. It was an honor to wear a kilt, pipe bag cover and drone ribbons, all in Black Watch tartan in commemoration of his grandfather. He even showed me a photo in his uniform. For a half-hour, I played a selection of laments, hymns, airs and slow marches. It was a very cold day, and fortunately, I didn't have to play outside. A number of people complimented me on my piping that day.Review by Daniel K.

I was booked to play at this country wedding in a very rural setting. I played prior to the Bride's arrival, and then after the ceremony as the Bridal Couple greeted their guests. I was able to play a bit more than expected, but this was good for practice. Aaron and Emma were a very happy couple.Review by Sara T.

Sara previously saw my performance last March at the St. Patrick's Day observance at the Asbury Methodist Village Retirement Community. Following her husband's passing, she asked me to play at his Memorial Service in Potomac, MD. I played a Prelude outside the Geneva Presbyterian Church as mourners were gathering. I also played for the Processional and Recessional. Her family and guests were very friendly and very welcoming.Review by Portia B.

After a number of cancellations and re-scheduled dates, I played at the 300-yr Anniversary Commemoration Service at the Donegal Presbyterian Church in Mount Joy. I played for an hour as worshippers were gathering, and then played the Processional for the beginning of the service. At the end, I played Simple Gifts as a Recessional. Many people expressed their appreciation. I wore summer full-dress in Clan Cameron tartan.Review by Michael S.

Michael hired me to play at the wedding of his sister on a farm in eastern York County. I played for 15 minutes at the end of the cocktail hour prior to the introduction of the Bridal Couple. For the beginning of my performance, the audience was enraptured, and I received great acclaim. The family and guests were very welcoming. This was a great opportunity, and the pipes sounded very well.Review by Sara B.

As director, Sara booked me to play at the annual open house at the Red Stone Glen Fiber Arts Center in York Haven, PA. I played intermittently for two hours and took breaks to chat with the other visitors and the staff. It was a beautiful day, and perfect weather for piping. A very pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon.Review by Melissa J.

Melissa hired me to play at the renewal of her vows at the Englewood Brewery in Hummelstown, PA. This was a converted barn which turned it into an impressive venue both indoors and outdoors. It is located right next to the Hershey Medical Center. I played before the outdoor ceremony as guests were arriving by a motorized trolley. I played Highland Laddie for a Recessional, and then a number of traditional Scottish tunes for her Scottish grandmother who actually danced a jig..
