When there’s no cap on a party budget, there’s no cap on creativity. That’s why we keep an eye on the celebrity event circuit. You never know when that sky’s-the-limit budget is going to result in some of the coolest party theme ideas of the year. Get inspired by some of our all-time favorite celebrity party themes, below.

Gabrielle Union’s 46th Birthday

Theme: ‘90s

Decade parties, in all their nostalgic glory, are always a great theme option. From the music to the clothing, every decade has its own distinctive style. For her 46th birthday, Gabrielle Union went old school and threw a ‘90s-themed party. The actress channeled her inner Gwen Stefani and dressed in plaid pants and a platinum-blonde wig. Friends and family danced to throwback jams like Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Goin Down.” The most epic moment? A surprise performance by Lil Kim, singing “Crush on You.”

Recreate your own ‘90s party by selecting one main focus to anchor the theme: will your event pay tribute to the golden age of R&B, or take a cue from old sitcoms? From there, think about the menu and signature cocktail. We’ve got ideas for both, right here.

Jessica Biel’s 35th Birthday

Theme: Roller Disco

What do you get when you accessorize the fabulous fashion of the ‘70s with a pair of roller skates? An amazing party idea. For her 35th birthday, actress Jessica Biel celebrated with a roller skate fete, planned by husband Justin Timberlake. The Sinner star even donned sequin bell bottoms for the event.

Nina Dobrev’s 30th Birthday

Theme: Ninachella

Coachella only happens once a year, but you can recreate flower crown-clad boho vibes whenever you want. And nothing says “party” quite like a live DJ, photo booth and neon ferris wheel décor. All of which were present at Nina Dobrev’s 30th birthday, aptly named “Ninachella.” This milestone celebration was not taken lightly.

“Thirty doesn’t feel much different,” the Vampire Diaries actress says in an Instagram post after the party. “At least I didn’t act like it this weekend. But I’m definitely 30 because this hangover feels WAY different than when I was in my 20’s.” Preach.

If you want to throw your own Coachella, you have to go big or go home. From the food to the entertainment, read all our tips for pulling it off. And yes, flower crowns are necessary.

Simi and Haze’s 24th Birthday

Theme: Galactic Rodeo

In case their celebrity-studded Instagram account hasn’t made its way into your feed before, Sama and Haya Khadra (known as Simi and Haze) are identical twins who travel the globe DJing and attending the most exclusive social events. For their 24th birthday, the pair decided to celebrate with a galactic rodeo-themed party. Think: space cowboy meets neon frontier. Guests dressed in eclectic western outfits with iridescent accessories, posed in front of a photo booth and danced to beats spun by a DJ.

Beyonce’s 35th Birthday

Theme: Soul Train

Every birthday deserves a celebration, but a milestone birthday is an extra special occasion that deserves a next-level fete. Which is exactly how Beyonce celebrated her 35th. Friends and family of the singer came together decked out in ‘70s threads for a Soul Train-themed soiree. The guest list included stars such as Carmelo Anthony, Cassie, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Alicia Keys and Serena Williams. From the looks of photos posted to Instagram, guests really committed to the theme with Sonny and Cher-inspired outfits, plenty of metallic and sequin accessories and diva-approved attitudes.

A ‘70s party can take many forms, from this Soul Train theme to a Studio 54 spin, but there are some basics that remain the same. Get our tips for themed food, drinks and entertainment here.
