LivingSocial Adventures partnered with HBO to throw a fun, lavish night out on a yacht to celebrate Season 2 of Boardwalk Empire. Kate Levenstien, the Chicago Manager for LivingSocial Adventures, turned to GigMasters when it came time to book entertainment for this casino-themed event. Kate took time out of her busy schedule (she plans 30 events every year!) to share her fabulous photos and tell us more about this unique, swanky affair!
First off, why the casino theme?
KL: The casino theme was so much fun for Chicagoans because for a long time Chicago was the home to prohibition and big-name gangsters like Al Capone. We had two blackjack tables, craps and roulette for people to bet with fake chips and win raffle prizes at the end. At each table, casino experts were on hand to instruct customers how to play and make it fun for all levels of people! We raffled off a bottle of whiskey, a box of cigars, LivingSocial Deal Bucks, Sopranos Season 1 and many more prizes.
Why did you choose a private yacht for this event?
KL: Why not!? Chicagoans love being out on Lake Michigan with the gorgeous views of our beloved skyline. The cruise was right at sunset and the city just looked beautiful. A private yacht was the perfect venue because it embodied a swanky adventure that was fun and unique.
Tell us more about the food, décor, and entertainment.
KL: The food was delicious! All of the passed hors d'oeuvres and desserts were alcohol-infused. (Wow!) The decor popped as you walked from one deck to the next. On the first deck we had a step-and-repeat when customers first walked in and were greeted with a glass of champagne. (A step-and-repeat is a red carpet backdrop, for those of us who don't regularly attend celeb events.) After we departed, the first deck turned into a "speakeasy" with an intimate whiskey tasting class, a Manhattan cocktail demonstration station where customers would learn how to make a perfect Manhattan cocktail and then make their own, an exclusive screening of Boardwalk Empire Season 2 trailer and a popcorn machine. The third deck was where a lot of the entertainment took place. The band, Different Hats Dance Orchestra, was making everyone hit the dance floor, the photobooth, casino tables and cigar roller were all located upstairs. It was also an open bar from 4-7pm. We had fake guns, pearl necklaces and boas, barrels and crates that people really enjoyed dressing up in. Guests were given the red-carpet treatment.
What role did the entertainment play at the event?
KL: Different Hats really made the 1920s come alive at the event. We were teaching people how to do the Charleston and some other era-appropriate moves on the dance floor! I hope people really enjoyed themselves and can't wait to come on another Adventure with LivingSocial soon!
