GigMasters Guide to Prom Night

Drew Stoga

It has been about a dozen years since my senior prom, but I remember it like it was yesterday. All of the nervousness, excitement, awkwardness and fun (and more awkwardness) of prom is still very fresh in my mind. I can still smell my fake boutonniere! Prom night is a big one. It’s something you look forward to for a very long time.

If you want a truly successful prom – one that you will remember (fondly) for the rest of your life – the best thing you can do is to plan it yourself. So volunteer for that prom planning committee and make it happen!

Prom Themes When picking a prom theme you can and probably should get more creative than ‘Enchantment under the Sea’ – but hey it worked in Back to the Future. Actually my senior prom took place an aquarium which really was pretty enchanting. The shark tank proved to be particularly entertaining. Anyway, a simple Google or Bing search will give you plenty of prom theme suggestions. Some popular themes are ‘Starry Night,’ ‘A Night in Paris,’ ‘Hollywood Spectacular,’ etc.

Prom Entertainment As of this writing, with prom still a few months away, GigMasters has booked performers at 86 upcoming proms. Twenty seven of these bookings are for prom DJs. A good DJ is absolutely essential to any successful prom. An experienced prom DJ knows to mix things up by playing prom classics along with popular hits of the day. Before tallying up the results I assumed live bands would be the second most requested prom entertainment. While live and cover bands are still popular choices, hypnotists actually came in as the second most booked entertainers for prom. While I found this surprising it does make sense as hypnotists are dynamic and entertaining performers. A hypnotist might work particularly well at a post-prom or after-prom event. Other popular performers for proms include other variety entertainers like magicians, fortune tellers and comedians.

Getting to Prom Now the part that every parent is interested in: safe transportation to and from the prom. Your teenager does not want their parents anywhere near them on prom night, so chances are they are looking to hire a limo service. A prom party bus is another popular option. Either one should get you to your prom and home again at the end of the night. It is up to you which is more your style.

We hope all of you kids have a wonderful prom. And for you old folks out there, leave us a comment below recounting some of your prom memories – good or bad.
