Wedding Planner Spotlight: Events Custom Taylored

Nicole SteegerContributor

At GigMasters we're lucky enough to work with a lot of event planners. Like anyone planning a party, they come to us when they need to be sure of the entertainment for the event. Recently on our sister blog, Life of the Party, Nicole interviewed one of our favorite planners, Taylor of Events Custom Taylored (I know! How cute is that?). I felt that some of what they talked about was especially important for brides to hear, so I excerpted the conversation here. If you want to read the whole chat, you can read the original post here on Life of the Party.

GM: What is your favorite part about being a professional event planner?

TS: Seeing the months, and sometimes years, of hard work unfold right in front of me. I also love getting to watch my client’s excitement throughout the day.

GM: If you could work on a specific event type more than you currently do, what would it be and why?

TS: I’ve been planning weddings for over ten years; however, I just recently got married myself and now have a different outlook on the day. Being able to make someone else’s most memorable day of their life, really the most memorable day of their life, is the best feeling in the world.

GM: How does entertainment fit into the events that you plan?

TS: Entertainment is absolutely the soul of the event. Everything else can be perfect, but if the entertainment isn’t, the rest doesn’t matter. People remember an event because of the entertainment; everything else helps accent it.

GM: Why do you use GigMasters for finding entertainment?

TS: I use GigMasters for finding entertainment for a variety of reasons. I love the user-friendly, helpful experience—you really feel like you are getting to know the entertainment without having to do too much research.  It saves me so much time!  GigMasters is my best kept secret!GM: What’s the biggest misconception people have about event planners?TS: That event planners are expensive and only for the rich and famous. Most planners offer a variety of services for all types of budgets…

GM: What’s the one piece of advice you’d offer anyone about finding a planner?

TS: Take your time interviewing planners. They will be the one guiding you through the entire process; you need to connect with them not only on a business level, but on a personal one, as they will be the extension to your vision.

GM: What’s one piece of advice you’d offer anyone planning  a party on their own?

TS: Do your research, interview a few different vendors and breathe! The day is going to happen no matter what, and you can only plan for so much!
